CFO Roundtable Intensive: What Else Could Go Wrong? Building a Dynamic Risk Profile
Tuesday, September 29, 2020 (8:00 AM - 9:20 AM) (CDT)
It’s Risky Not to Rethink Risks
As CFO, you’re responsible to the CEO and board for managing the firm’s overall risk exposure: you can’t let them get distracted by one risk. It’s bad to miss risks we should have seen. How are your peers now keeping their eyes on the big picture of risk? What new mitigation approaches are they using? Change opens opportunities for improvement or growth: this session will help you maintain a wide and long view.
Dan oversees American Family’s financial functions, including risk management, investments, internal audit and reinsurance. Dan started at AmFam as financial analyst, then as accounting manager, accounting director, VP of HR, and now CFO and Treasurer. He has a BA in business administration and an MBA from UW-Madison. He is a CPA, a licensed insurance agent in Wisconsin, and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute and holds an Associate in Customer Service designation.
This Intensive is limited to eight peers. We’ll structure this facilitated session with a 1-page risk matrix to help everyone focus. Immediately after Dan’s 15-minute setup, we’ll take up three questions to share ideas on creating a dynamic risk profile:
- How have the probabilities and consequences of last year’s risks shifted?
- How have you helped the CEO or board keep current on the shifting risk position?
- What new ways are you managing the risk in your long-term plans?
